Hello! I'm sure there are a lot of posts like this here, and I'm really sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I do need some advice and some recommendations on what to do.

Recently, I got into a situation where I fell into a headspace that was definitely in the little/pet part of my brain in an environment that was not very safe and made me feel very exposed. A part of me recognized that dynamic, but there's no way for me to explore it with the person it happened with.

So I'm in a bind. I have the tingles, I want to explore something, and I don't really have a person to do it with. The other thing is that I'm SUPER NEW, very scared, and I don't know how to navigate this space. Would it be better for me to try exploring it on my own before I do anything with another person?

I don't know any clubs or people who are in this space who would be able to help introduce me to it, and I'm scared that I'll do something wrong and upset people... so, help?

And also, a big, big thank you in advance for reading. 🙂

Bean,

Talk to some people on here and see if you feel comfortable being youself with any of them. If so, consider explaining to the individual(s) in question what’s on your mind. You may get some helpful feedback that way.

Hi Littlebean,

First, you don’t need to apologize for asking for help. Everyone starts somewhere, and honestly I think it’s a good sign that you’re asking questions instead of rushing into something before you’re ready.

From what you wrote, it sounds like the biggest thing your mind is telling you right now is that you want to understand this side of yourself in a safe environment. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking your time. You don’t have to find a caregiver tomorrow, and you certainly don’t have to feel pressured into exploring anything before you feel comfortable.

If it were me giving advice to someone brand new, I’d say start by learning about your own boundaries, what makes you feel safe, and what this headspace means to you personally. Making friends in the community before entering a dynamic can also be a really healthy way to learn without feeling rushed.

And for what it’s worth, you haven’t said anything here that makes me think you’re going to “do something wrong.” The fact that you’re concerned about respecting others already tells me you’re approaching this thoughtfully.

I hope you find the safe, supportive environment you’re looking for.
