Ryan Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Hello everyone, I wanted to write directly about some of the behavior that has happened on the forum recently. Over the past few weeks, a few people joined and used the space to harass members, post hateful comments, and create spam. Some of it was especially upsetting, including anti-Semitic content. I did not catch it or respond to it quickly enough, and I’m genuinely sorry for that. I understand why that may have made it feel like the forum had been left unattended or abandoned. It has not been, but I was not paying close enough attention, and the result was the same for the people affected. That is on me. This community matters to me. It is a place where people can have personal, adult, and sometimes controversial conversations, but that is never an excuse for harassment, hate speech, threats, doxxing, or treating other members badly. Since becoming aware of the problem, I have made a number of changes behind the scenes. I do not want to publish every detail publicly, because some of those details are more effective when they are not predictable, but at a high level: I have improved the reporting options so it is clearer why content is being reported. Reports now provide more useful information for review, so it is easier to respond with context. I have added quicker automatic safeguards for repeated reports of serious content, harassment, and spam. I have added stronger review and restriction steps for new or suspicious accounts. I have set clearer consequences for repeated rule-breaking and serious conduct. I have fixed a technical issue that had limited our ability to identify and take action against abusive accounts. I will be paying much closer attention to reports and the moderation queue going forward. If you see something that crosses the line, please report it rather than getting pulled into an argument. Reports are one of the fastest ways to bring something to my attention. If something involves a threat, doxxing, or serious hate speech, please report it right away. I am also looking for one or two volunteer moderators to help keep an eye on the forum and make sure reports are handled more quickly. I am looking for people who are active, calm, fair, and able to apply the rules consistently. This incident made one thing clear to me: I need help with this forum. My life is often unpredictable, and sometimes I am unable to give this forum the attention it deserves for a few weeks at a time. I am looking for help to make sure we can respond to situations like this promptly. I am also looking for people who would like to take a stronger role in the community itself. If you enjoy helping people feel included, organizing community events, starting conversations, or helping make the forum feel more welcoming and comfortable, I would love to hear from you too. I want to give this forum more attention and help make it feel like a home for the people here. If you are interested in helping with moderation, community events, or making the space better overall, please send me a private message with a little about yourself and what you might be interested in helping with. Thank you to everyone who reported problems, spoke up, or stayed patient while this was being addressed. I know that trust comes from what happens next, not just from an announcement, and I intend to show up and do better. Quote
